I had some hesitation about using the word "loser" in the subject line, but then I figured, that such a person would never read this (#20 below). I am checking out the size of the market and unmet need to help a sibling or an adult child age 18+ with the following profile:
- Not doing anything productive in their life
- Unmotivated
- Makes excuses
- Blames others
- Feels sorry for self
- Acts like a victim
- Takes no responsibility for causing their situation
- Takes no responsibility for correcting it
- Has no plan for getting better
- Doesn't cooperate with plans provided by others
- Never made it through high school, college or beyond
- Sleeps most of the day
- Has psychiatric illness, but doesn't cooperate with treatment including appointments or medications
- Psychiatric, Drug or alcohol problems with at least one inpatient hospitalization, but either signs out, relapses or doesn't follow through
- Successful siblings views person as manipulative and can't stand them and believe parents are enabling them
- Responsible for more than 80% of their parents' stress
- Parents are besides themselves and even mentally and physically sick over this child
- Frequently threaten to end it all because there is nothing to live for
- The loser would never read this list, because it's too true
- The elephant in the room that no one will talk about is believing that everyone including this loser would be better off if they were dead
I don't like to bring up problems that merely make people more miserable and that there is no solution to. However after spending two years of due diligence I have found a psychiatric rehabilitation company that for 35+ years has been successfully dealing with the uncooperative and non-compliant person and their family described above.
Unfortunately they are currently only in Southern California (but being on their Board I am hoping to help them expand it to other locations), but they are referred to by McLeans, Menningers, Betty Ford, Sierra Tucson, Austin Riggs, UCLA, and many other facilities so (these young adults will often move to Los Angeles) for this help and 50 top psychiatrists in Los Angeles to deal with these 18+ adults.
A life is a terrible thing to waste and it's a tragic thing to die before your time... even for a loser.
Nearly all of you know of a family with a member 18+ that the above profile fits, but you don't talk to them about that child, because the conversation is awkward, you are problem solvers and you don't have a solution for them. Now you can give them one.
